Community Outreach
One of the cornerstones of a Trinity education is outreach to those less fortunate. Trinity demonstrates its commitment to the needy through our support of a wide range of programs aimed at helping not only area residents, but those in need globally. Students, families and faculty at Trinity join together to fulfill a wide array of charitable initiatives ranging from taking up collections for natural disaster victims and missions in Africa to delivering much needed supplies to the local Elkridge Food Pantry.
Trinity is a founding member of FISH of Howard County, a 24 hour volunteer service for the needy. On a year-round basis the Trinity Community reaches out to families in need and local charities such as Parents and Children Together (PACT), the Maryland Food Bank, and Our Daily Bread. We take care to place special emphasis on charities such as these during the holiday season.
An annual outreach effort specific to Trinity's Middle School students is the Adopted Grandparent program. Each student in 5th and 6th grade is assigned a resident of a local nursing home as their adopted grandparents. The students host an afternoon tea, visit their adopted grandparents, and send them handmade cards throughout the year.
To me, Trinity is not only a school-it is a part of my family.
~A Trinity Parent
Trinity remains sensitive to current needs and engages students in responding to these needs whenever possible. The development of leadership among the students is a primary goal at the school. Students' God-given gifts are cultivated so they become responsible leaders motivated by a strong faith and animated by a spirit of service.
Some examples of student outreach projects are:
-
The sale of handmade bracelets to raise money for Alzheimer's disease
-
Donation of hair to Locks of Love
-
Fundraising for tsunami and hurricane victims
-
Sponsoring Alex's Lemonade Stand in our cafeteria to raise money for cancer research
-
Participating in the Math-a-Thon for St. Jude's Children's Hospital
-
Holiday collections for troops overseas
Among the organizations and causes Trinity School supports:
"Bags of Plenty" Thanksgiving Food Drive
During the month of November, we support the Maryland Food Bank in their effort to stock the pantries of local charitable organizations. The children are asked to bring in canned and packaged goods during this month.
PACT Christmas Toy Drive
Prior to the Christmas holidays, the children are asked to bring in a new unwrapped toy to donate to PACT, a local organization that works with needy families with special needs children.
Annual "A-Thon"and UNICEF Collection
Each year, Trinity students support one national organization or charity. They participate in activities to raise funds, such as the St. Jude's Hospital "Math-a-thon" or the American Heart Association's "Jump for Heart"' Jump rope-a-thon, or UNICEF's collection at Halloween. These typically take place during late October, February or March.
Our Daily Bread Spring Drive
Our Daily Bread, the organization that serves meals and provides the basic necessities of life to Baltimore's homeless population, sponsors a drive each spring to stock its shelves with supplies for the summer. Each grade is asked to bring in particular items such as toothbrushes, soap, lotion, etc.
Lenten Mite Boxes
During Lent, the students are asked to sacrifice by saving and donating money to support Catholic missions around the world.
St. Vincent de Paul
A clothing bin is located in the school parking lot for year round donations.
FISH of Howard County
This volunteer organization, co-founded by Trinity School and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in 1973, provides emergency services to the needs. In May of each year, we collect food and supplies to keep them stocked for the summer.
St. Martin's Home for the Aged Each year, fifth and sixth graders may
adopt a resident of
St. Martin's, a home for the elderly and infirm in Catonsville. We also sponsor a number of Bingo Sundays for the residents of St. Martin 's throughout the year.
