Kindergarten

1Kindergarten at Trinity is a well-balanced, full-day program. The foundations for learning and social interaction are developed over the course of the year in preparation for a successful transition into first grade. Our academic-based kindergarten program stresses development of appropriate social interaction in the classroom and during play time.

Homework

While primarily a skill-building activity to develop personal responsibility, Kindergarten homework reinforces and provides additional practice time for newly introduced concepts. We encourage parents to oversee the completion of homework but to allow the child to complete the work independently. The work is checked for completion but is not part of the student's assessment.

Assessment

Students are evaluated on a daily basis in Kindergarten through teacher observation and one-on-one authentic assessments. The three skill-based report cards and parent-teacher conferences ensure that parents are fully informed regarding their child's progress. Parents also review daily math and phonics papers showing the child's progress on that day's learning. A monthly Kindergarten newsletter is sent home at the end of each month informing the parents of the concepts introduced or reviewed, holiday celebration activities, and special activities. A portfolio is sent home each trimester showing assessments as well as a large collection of writing samples showing development of skills throughout the trimester. By the end of the year, this collection of writing showcases growth in the writing process throughout the year.

Admissions Requirements

All applicants for Kindergarten must complete an online application for admission and complete a screening process in order to be considered for admission to Trinity. In February, applicants are assessed for Kindergarten readiness, and to determine if our program will meet the individual needs of a prospective student. Due to the state mandated age cut off, students applying for Kindergarten must have reached the age of 5 by September 1st of the enrollment year.
